A Round and Open Door is a threshold. We all know about crossing thresholds. Inanna, Psyche and Persephone did it. And we do it every day with ease, awe, terror, joy or delight. It’s as big as a Journey of Initiation or as small as waking up for the day or deciding what to wear or what to eat. We may do it mindfully or be swept across by surprise. Our presenters are preparing to guide us in exploring the art of crossing through the door to the mystery, back & forth, staying awake, and knowing what we really want. Our Circle of women is a round and open door. We invite you to step on through and join us for a fantastic retreat!
The retreat begins on Friday, August 19, 2011 with registration from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and ends Monday, August 22, 2011 at noon. The CYO Retreat Center is located amidst 216 acres of towering redwoods and an open meadow in historical western Sonoma County, just six miles from the Pacific Ocean and near the town of Occidental.
Renowned for its immaculate facilities, the retreat center also features miles of wooded hiking trails, playing fields, basketball and volleyball courts, two swimming pools, and campfire sites.
Twenty-four sparkling clean, heated cabins house up to twelve people each. Some campsites are available for tenting.
Wholesome, nutritious, naturally delicious meals from Friday's dinner to Monday's lunch will be provided by our resident chef, there is always a vegetarian option, food allergies and restrictions can be accommodated with prior notice.
Our new chef: this year is Molly Holbrook, owner of Organicopia, a catering and personal chef service. Since her graduation from the California Culinary Academy, her primary interest is in organic, sustainable, and delicious cooking served with hospitality and love. For more information, visit her website at www.myorganicopia.com.
Circle groups are the heart of our community. During retreat, you are invited to gather daily with the same small circle group. This is your home base; a safe, intimate place in which to listen and be heard.
Women attending the retreat with talents in massage, bodywork, healings, readings, and other areas are welcome to provide services to sister participants during free times. Please check the "Fee for Service" box on the Registration Form if you want to offer a service.
Groups of four or more women attending the retreat for the first time receive a 25% discount upon request. First time participants are often friends of last year's attendees.
Regina Wells (aka Rashida Oji) Leads us in song. "She has a voice like a trombone that bends notes round and down to a palpating low and up to a pure and reaching high." Regina is skilled in vocal transformation, connecting through movement, touch and sound, the voice of your heart with the voice of your being.
Afia Walking Tree (www.spiritdrumz.org) Using drum as sacred medicine, will lead us to connect with individual, collective and planetary wellness. Afia is joined by Lisa Afraaditi, teacher and doctoral student of Philosophy and Cosmology at California Institute of Integral Studies. Lisa will offer her generosity as a priestess to our drumming and spiritual journeys over the weekend.
Deanna Simmons A Spiritual Artist who brings Love and Whimsy to the creative process. A new Board member this year, she has brought new joy to our circle. She manifests an open safe place for play and discovery.
Laree Kiely Ph.D. (www.kielygroup.com) will help us envision what we would like to see on the other side of the door and discover within ourselves the resources to cross over the portal. She has 25+ years' experience consulting, facilitating, and teaching leadership skills in the US and around the world.
Susie Mader (http://madergreenshaman.com/) will lead us on a Shamanic journey back and forth across the threshold. She teaches Shamanic journeying and meditation to individuals and small groups. She has a long history of gardening and Woman's Spirituality.
CAW is a community of women who share an annual retreat. 'Circular Governance' is clearly modeled at the retreat. 'Circle-Groups' meet each morning to share on a personal level. Opening and Closing Circles create our sacred space, and the board holds the vision for the Camp throughout the year in their own circle. In this way the diverse needs of the individuals are met, the identity of the community is structured, and women have an opportunity to step seamlessly into service. We invite women to volunteer – become part of the volunteer network, or circle, that helps create the retreat.
Please be mindful that this an alcohol and drug free retreat.
